iPhoto2Gmail
Frequently Asked Questions:

1. Can I access my Gmail address book/Contact List?
Contact list support was added in v 0.4!

2. Can I send the email to multiple people at once?
Yes, just enter the addresses separated by commas.

3. Do I need to put my entire Gmail address in the account field or only the part before the ‘@’ symbol?
You only need to put in your account name, no need for the full address.

4. Can I use iPhoto2Gmail with my custom Gmail domain?
Google Apps For Your Domain is supported in iPhoto2Gmail v.10 and newer. Simply click on the domain text in the login window and enter your domain

5. Why do I need to enter my login information each time I restart iPhoto?
You don't have to anymore if you download version 0.7.1 or newer ;)

6. Can’t I set up Mail.app to use Gmail’s SMTP server and then tell iPhoto to use a dummy mailbox and send email that way?
Absolutely! iPhoto2Gmail is just an alternative for folks that do not use Mail.app or those who simply do not want to bother setting it all up.  You can find out more about Mail.app and gmail here.

7.How Can I Get Rid of iPhoto2Gmail?
Try the Uninstaller first.
If that fails, you can remove it manually by Control-Clicking on iPhoto and Choosing 'Get Info'.
You should see a Plug-ins section. Find iPhoto2Gmail in that list and click the "Remove" Button.
If you are very comfortable on the command-line, try this
 sudo rm -rf /Applications/iPhoto.app/Contents/PlugIns/iPhoto2Gmail.iPhotoExporter
8. What do the Exit Codes Mean?
As of iPhoto2Gmail v.10 and Aperture2Gmail v.05 Exit Codes have the following meanings:
  • MessagingException = 5
  • GeneralException = 6
  • Bad Launch Args = 7

These typically don't tell you much, however if you hold down the shift key while clicking the "Export" buton, the plugin will write debugging information to your system logs. You can use Console.app (located in /Applications/Utilities) to view the detailed logs. These will often be necessary to help individual users track down their particular problem.

One common reason for Exit Code 5 is blocked SMTP traffic. This is often the case in corporate environments.

    Known Issues:

    1. Sometimes, the installer will refuse to continue, stating you do not have at least iPhoto 5. This has been a known issue throughout development. I am still not sure what causes the failure as I have never been able to reproduce it. You can try the manual install option.

    2. After installing v0.7 or the early v0.7.1 release, you can no longer see the Export dialog in non-administrator accounts. This was a file permissions issue that was resolved in the v.0.7.1 installer as of 11:11pm CST, Sept 20, 2007. You can either remove the plugin, or download the latest version to resolve this issue. -- FIXED in v 0.7.1

    3. Some non English characters do not come through properly in emails. I will try to address this for v0.5.

    4. Nikon NEF files are not resized properly. This is an issue with Apple’s NSImage framework. -- FIXED in v0.6

    5. The text boxes are behaving strangely and I am trying to fix a number of problems with input and key shortcuts.  -- FIXED in v 0.3

    6. Original filenames are used when sending photos, so even when an image is resized and sent as a JPEG file, it will still have the original file extension (ie picture2.RAW) and may confuse some people and email clients. -- FIXED in v 0.4

    7. File Size Check for 10MB warns you but does not abort the sending process properly. -- FIXED in v 0.3

    8. Gmail account input text box is limiting folks to 20 characters. This will be fixed ASAP. -- FIXED in v 0.3

    9. Copy/Paste, arrow keys do not work in text fields. What’s up with that?
Uh... the text boxes are being weird and I am trying to fix all of the above. Hopefully this will be taken care of in the next release. -- FIXED in v0.3
